Band have been officially invited by [British] prime minister to perform alongside John Legend at tonight’s (March 14) gig.

Mumford and Sons will play for David Cameron and Barack Obama at a state dinner at the White House tonight (March 14).

The band have been personally invited to play the gig by prime minister Cameron, while Obama has booked singer John Legend to perform at the bash…

Mumford And Sons are also due to attend SXSW in Austin, Texas this Saturday (17), where their documentary film Big Easy Express is being shown.

Mumford & Sons brought their magic for not one, not two, but three-nights of sold-out shows at the historic Ryman Auditorium last week…

After a triple dose of Mumford & Sons at the Ryman, the band was not quite ready to head out of town without giving Nashville a little more to resonate with before they hit the road. If you were one of the lucky ones that caught wind of a rumored Mumford & Sons appearance at The Basement, you were certainly in for a treat.

The crowd poured in and The Basement filled up quickly. The venue reached capacity a little after midnight and a handful of hopefuls stood around outside, eagerly waiting for someone to leave so they could enter this secret event.

Marcus Mumford, who stepped outside for a moment, asked the crowd why they were standing outside and he was informed the venue was at capacity. He then said not to worry and went and approached Mike Grimes (owner of The Basement). A moment later Mike announced to the crowd that per Marcus’s request, everyone was allowed inside the venue.

Inside The Basement, members of Mumford & Sons, Dawes, Apache Relay, Colorfeels and John Rich were just some of the folks out having a good time.

Finally around 2:00 a.m., perhaps the best jam session of 2012 broke out and The Basement attempted to set their own record for most people playing on stage; (the secret Metallica show comes to mind).

Marcus Mumford took the stage with Dawes, Apache Relay’s guitarist Mike Harris, the Mumford & Sons horn section, John McCauley (Deer Tick), Jonny Corndawg, and some of the members of Colorfeels.

The appetizer was a six-minute jam session that got everyone moving. Dawes lead singer, Taylor Goldsmith, started the main course with the distinctive opening notes of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Born On The Bayou,” and followed with Springsteen’s “Dancing In The Dark.” Marcus Mumford took over vocals on a stirring rendition of Townes Van Zandt’s, “If I Needed You.”

Afterwards, Mumford headed back to the drums and Goldsmith, McCauley, and Corndawg collaborated on a “pseudo-medley” of Bob Dylan’s, “I Shall Be Released,” and Buck Owen’s, “Act Naturally.” The boys broke this hit down in a two-part jam session, just to keep the fun lingering a little longer.

Everyone left The Basement feeling full—perhaps even over-indulged—but ultimately satisfied to have witnessed such a dynamic group of performers in such a secret setting.

Well, I’ve been on something of a self-imposed hiatus over the last week/month/a while now, but Jennifer from Mumford and Sons Blog with the help of a few other tumblr compatriots (thank you so much to (jburneya and meetva2000) did something pretty awesome while at the Ryman Auditorium just a few days ago aside from seeing M & S rock out. Something that I think warrants a little effort on my part.

She had Mr. Marcus Mumford of the ever-so wonderful Mumford & Sons sign a copy of Sigh No More Deluxe as pictured here. She explained to him that this would be given to someone who is donating to the causes they support via The Wayside Inn, specifically Amnesty International and Invisible Children. That Marcus is aware of our little project…well, you can imagine I was pretty…gobsmacked is a polite way of putting it.

How to Win This Autographed Copy of Sigh No More:

First, reblog! Then, donate. To be good to our word, only donors are up for winning this but if you donate once and reblog multiple times, you increase your chances.

Option A: Donate to Invisible Children via the Wayside Inn
The band has performed for IC, their music has been used in IC videos, most recently in the phenomenon that is the Kony 2012 viral film.

Option B: Donate to Amnesty International via The Wayside Inn
The band most recently took part in the Secret Policeman’s Ball to raise money for Amnesty International, an organization that works on human rights around the world.

Just got home from Nashville and was going to give a little update before I go to bed (it’s 5am here and I have to work tomorrow, I’ll post in detail later). So quick updates, I had a nice chat with Winston today, found out when the album will come out and some of the songs that made the cut, finished getting all four boys to sign my set list. I have a pic of Marcus and I and he is signing the set list with a baseball hat on, it’s adorable! Dawes and Mumford sung “When my time comes together” and “Awake my soul” together. Jerry Douglas was there all 3 nights and they did “Awake my soul” & “The Boxer” every night together. Best part of the night was when Old Crow Medicine Show and Mumford sung “Wagon Wheel” unplugged. So I’ll post the videos later! Give you all something to look forward too! xoxo
